DGF Middle School Students Start Smart with Grab-and-Go Breakfast

posted Oct 30, 2015, 1:21 PM by Heidi Critchley

Recent studies confirm that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

If your children aren't starting their day with a nutritious breakfast, then they aren’t starting their day ready to learn!  Many studies show that hungry children have a hard time concentrating in class, they have more behavior problems, and they even score lower on standardized tests than do their counterparts.  That's why our school district is launching a new campaign, supported by a grant from the PartnerSHIP for Health, to promote Grab-and-Go Breakfast in the Middle School.

The breakfast program is intended to ensure that all middle school kids who didn’t eat breakfast at home can access it at school.  The program will continue through this academic year.  Families who are eligible for free or reduced price School Lunch are also eligible for free or reduced price School Grab-and-Go Breakfast.

Breakfast will be available daily to all students grades 6-8 at the DGF Middle School.  Students will be allowed to choose from a menu of healthy and delicious breakfast items, which include, milk, juice, fruit, muffins, bagels, cereal, etc.  The Grab-and-Go breakfast is $1.00, $0.00 for students qualifying for reduced-price lunch, and $0.00 for students who qualify for free lunch. Teachers and parents are welcome to go through the Grab-and-Go Breakfast line for $2.45.

Breakfast will be served each day from 7:45am-8:15am in front of the DGF MS office. Sixth and seventh graders will be allowed to come upstairs to get breakfast if they choose and return downstairs to their area in the morning.    The program will begin Monday November 2, 2015. Menus will be posted online on the DGF Website under the Food & Nutrition Services Page.

We are very excited to implement this program and to be able to offer our students another great option for breakfast in the morning!
